The picture is ok (not great, but if the lighting is bright, then it's ok), but the sound quality is absolutely abysmal. It literally sounds like the microphone is inside of people's mouths, and half the time I can't even understand what someone was even saying. It's a terrible camera for home videos. It might be fine for strictly shooting video where you don't care about anyone narrating, talking, or hearing anything that doesn't sound like someone is scraping their nails all over the microphone.
The only time you can actually understand what someone is saying is if they are at least 7-10 feet away from the camera. If you, as the camera operator, try to say anything at all, it's as though the audio gain is off the charts and you mostly just hear static.
I was hoping to use this camera to record some family events (birthdays, etc), but it's unusable for that purpose.

I've had this for about three weeks. It works great for the price. yeah in low light its not the greatest nor in bright sunlight. But my videos from my house or bars work fine. The camera is ok, but so that I don't have to carry both it works fine. The unit is entirely plastic so I bet it can not take a beating but it sure is light, and easy to hold for long periods of time. I'd get this for someone as a gift no problem.

It seemed great; but, then I noticed some problems (odd mismatch of playback sound vs video). Later, certain things wouldn't work (reviewing my works)....followed by nothing working. Box to trash can took about 12 months.

Please save your self time and money....it can't take a decent photo. It can't take a decent video, not even for the sale price that i got to buy it. I did send it back.

The video quality for <$100 is amazing. If you're expecting it to rival a $500 DV camcorder, you're setting yourself up for disappointment, but if you keep your expectations realistic, I think you'll be pleased.
There are a number of complaints in other reviews about the sound - it's not that bad. I think it really depends on what you're doing with it. I bought it for my son to play with some video editing in iMovie, rather than let him handle my good video camera, and I'm VERY impressed with the quality/price ratio. I've seen the output from other cheap video cameras, digital cameras, web cams that cost nearly this much, and this Aiptek is an order of magnitude better. Build quality is quite acceptable, and it has held up like a champ in the hands of four sub-ten-year old kids. For doing video podcasts on the cheap, or an easy way to get video from camera to computer, this is a great piece of kit. Used with a tripod, you don't have to worry about the lack of stabilization, and output quality was even better.
